Started having trouble engaging gears the weekend. Got worse and worse to the point that if I started it up while in gear with the clutch in, it would creep...er no. Pull away on it's own, more like!

Looked in the master cylinder and it was as good as empty. No sign of a leak anywhere so I topped it up, within about 10 presses of the clutch I could see the level had dropped.

Did a search on here and came to the conclusion it was the slave cylinder. So, changed that tonight (4 hours, b*s&%rd thing!).

Anyhow, bled the clutch, but still can't get it in gear :( :( :( :(

When you press the clutch, it's as if the first 50% of travel doesn't do anything, then you feel the pressure (I'm feeling the bloody pressure, I'll tell ya).

Help please

Did ypu check the hose to the slave cylinder coz mine had rubbed through on chassis and it would aloow fluid to leak allowing the slave cylinder to release.
When you bleed the clutch park it facing up a reasonably steep slope as once suggested a while back by an extremely helpfull bloke on here

I had exactly the same problem, fluid level ran out, couldn't select gear and the clutch would slip under hard acceleration. I re-bled the clutch and had 50% travel of nothing. Now the fluid goes down about 10mm a month and the biting point is right at the top, i've just not got round to sorting it out yet lol. It's done 5000 miles since but hasn't slipped or anything. A couple of weeks before it started i pulled 37 cars/vans out the floods so i put the high biting point down to that but now you've got this problem i'm gonna have to investigate further. I know this hasn't helped you at all but if i find anything i'll post it in here for ya. :)

Thanks Guys.

Sometimes, late at night, when you're cheesed off, got dirt in yer eye, hungry & thirsty, you miss the obvious.

My drive slopes down and the car is facing down. I'm hoping there's still some air in the slave that is compressing when I depress the clutch.

I'll bump it off the drive, turn it round and bleed the clutch again.

Darren.

Sorted!:D

Putting the Landy facing up hill and re-bleeding did the trick. I now have a super super smooth gear change. (no joke, really I do.)

A couple more top tips are:

1) Don't pump the clutch more than 5 times consecutively, as you will empty the master cylinder and suck air in the top. (Doh!)

2) Make sure you have enough clutch fluid (double Doh!).

Thanks for the advice guys.

Darrren.
