Good afternoon all,

I've just signed up to the forum, after 10 years without a Defender I've returned to the stable last September buying a 2003 G4 Edition 110, a proper Tangiers Orange one. Great to be back in a defender, I've had a wide range of 4x4's over the last few years including a Landcrusier, Hi Lux, 2 G Wagons, Discovery and Range Rover.

Ive enjoyed tinkering and giving 'Mandy' her 30mins of attention each week however I've now got a problem A couple of months ago the head lights started acting up, I've replaced the light switch and dim dip relay so far.

Next I'm going to try the indicator stalk and then the maybe bypass the wiring.

I have flash at all times but the headlights never stay on for more than 10mins or so and then they won't work for a couple of days!

Ahh I'd forgotten the joy and frustration of a Defender having been Toyota's for the last 5 years

You may have to chase the wiring and relay function as well, they can get funny and be 'thermally' sensitive  it means you may have to change 'em. :D

Thank you once again for your replies, it really has been infuriating trying to trace the fault. AA for 2 hours they said fit new light switch and dim dip relay it made no difference, the lights would cut out after 30 mins or so.

I had a look at the relays below the main fuse box near the gear leaver on Saturday, I found one had a burnt/corroded terminal. I cleaned it up best I could and refitted. Fingers crossed that's cured it, I've been driving aground all weekend with the headlights on and their still working!!!!
