New transfer box

Well i've just finished fitting a pair of Defender TD5 axles to my 90, whilst I was finishing things off and atatching the props I found an alarming amount of free play/backlash in my transfer box! so today I decided to take the inspection plate off the underside of the box and have a nosey, when I turn the output shaft there is a hell of a lot of play in the gears and shafts, so rather than repair it i'm just going to swap it for one out of a Disco 1.222 ratio, mine is 1.410 ratio, do you think this will be too high a ratio? bear in mind that at present the car will pull 3rd gear from 20-22mph! The engine is 200tdi with pump mods and straight through exhaust. I don't use it for towing just for driving to work and offroad days, which I always do in low range.
