Hello,
I am new to the world of classic land rovers. I have always been fascinated by them but have never had a chance to work on them, so I am trying to learn as much about them as I can before I buy one. I am mainly looking at Series 3 but am struggling to understand their prices. My question is how model year affects the price of short wheel base models, as so far I have struggled to see a pattern. Your help and advice would be great appreciated.
Many thanks
Cameron

Hi Cam,

You may get more sense from this rabble :D if you jump over to the Series section, as they will be more au fait with what you are looking for.

Welcome to the looneyzone..

Cheers

Welcome to LZ, Cameron! :)

Sure if you buy one you will soon get a chance to work on it! :D

The simple answer is, age and mileage have little or no effect on the value. Condition of chassis, bulkhead, and engine and trans are everything.

Hi Cameron, welcome to the forum. I have a series 3 as a weekend car, personally I couldn't live with it as an everyday vehicle. As Turboman says its the chassis, bulkhead etc that needs to be solid...or ideally already been rebuilt on a galvanised chassis. Don't be put off by the higher prices of some vehicles as they may have been rebuilt. Likewise a cheap purchase may end up costing you a lot of money to put right. Look at some of the Land Rover magazines like LRO and LRM as hey have various vehicles advertised. Ebay is sometimes good too...I bought my S3 and previously a Discovery 2 off ebay without seeing them first. A bit risky...I know. Firts time I saw the S3 was when it was delivered by seller on a trailer....thankfully the bloke (Bernie) was a solid guy and totally genuine.
