Hi all.
I've wanted a Landrover since I was in nappies :baby: (graduated to pants last year :smokin and after over 2 years of "umming and arring and should I, shouldn't I, would I be better off with a Landcruiser?......what about the fuel costs and what if?......perhaps I'll get a Nissan Micra instead - much more sensible!" I finally took the plunge last October (2012) and got myself a 2004 Disco II TD5 Auto ES Premium. Apart from the inevitable grimacing every time I visit the pumps (which is quite often) I can not stop grinning . I didn't do myself any favours money wise and paid top book for a 80,000 miler from a dealer. Set out from home with £10k in my pocket and bought some sweets for the kids with the change. She hasn't been without fault either, but none the less I can't help feeling like King Dick every time I get behind the wheel. The biggest down side is that the missus (who initially had no interest in buying one what so ever) now won't keep her sodding bum out of the driver's seat (the cow!!).
I've already taken advantage of some great advice (secretly) from this forum, so thought I should crawl out from under my rotting log and show my face (so to speak). I've done a few jobs on her now and learned a thing or two along the way. Will deffo be needing some more help soon too. Just replaced the alternator, which was full of oil from a leaking cam shaft cover "O" ring - scary looking job at first glance which turned out to be not too bad after all. Quite satisfying to sort it without paying 10 million quid an hour for LR dealer labour rates. My view of the Disco II is - probably the very last of the vehicles you actually can fix yourself (just) without a degree in metaphysics and computer programming.
A great forum with some obviously very knowledgeable and friendly folks. Looking forward to some friendly help (hopefully may be able to offer a bit back too).
