Hey all! Let me first off say I am super excited about my new Rover, and secondly please forgive any forum mores I might break. I am new to the whole concept and know less about forum etiquette/procedure than I do about my new truck!

So I was told I just got a '73, but there is nothing to support that claim. I understand that there is very little difference in the years but whats my best bet to find out what year for sure? I got an engine number off the block but I don't know where to check it. 36621873B if that helps.

Additionally, what is the best way to start her up??? The handover was a bit lacking in instruction so I have been trying to figure it out on my own. I understand the glow plug 'on switch' is the red plunger on the picture that I hopefully uploaded. Also, what does the switch to the left of that do? And the green plunger in between the speedo and fuel/heat display... when I pull it out nothing I can notice happens other than it lights up.

I have been starting it up by pulling the red plunger out (it lights up). I wait a minute or two and then crank it. Then I let it idle a few minutes before I take off. Am I doing this wrong????

Also, there is a slow leak coming from the exhaust manifold where it bolts into the block. And another which I believe is the valve gasket. I am about to ship the truck to the US (from Italy) and it can't have any oil leaks. I don't have time to do them myself, any ideas on about how difficult or expensive this should be to fix?

I appreciate any help!

Welcome
Well you have started well by introducing yourself
Have fun and good times in your landy there are lots of people to help you here if needed
:)

Swith to the left of the glow plugs turns the heater fan on/off. The sliding thing to the left of the dash change if the airflow comes out at the windscreen or your legs.

The one in the middle is the hazard lights I think.

If you figure out how to stop it leaking oil let the rest of us know! If it's just leaking slowly you could clean up what's there already so whoever is shipping it doesn't see that it is leaking?

Hi there and welcome. You will never stop a series from leaking something from somewhere.

The best advise is to get an 8x4 sheet of plywood to park it over.

More than likely oil is coming from rocker cover gasket from your description very easy to change if you can get a hold of one.
No need to let engine idle in fact I was advised against it when I 1st got mine as the idle oil pressure tends to be low and the preference is to drive it so gets good oil pressure to get the lubrication round.
