my front tyres were wearing down a bit but still about I mm before they hit the warning bit but were squealing on roundabouts so I went up my usual tyre place because I trust them and they got me some new Michelin latitudes and before I saw them he said the tread pattern is different as they have stopped making the old latitudes the moment I saw them I thought WOW! they look good so much so I have ordered two more for the front because I put the old ones on the front. see what you thing they are 225/55/17s first the new and then the old I will be selling the old one which have plenty of tread left on.

The new ones are Latitude Cross and the old ones are Latitude Tour HP by the looks of things

I had both on my Freelander and the Cross are a great all round tyre
 
Hello all.
Couldn't wait for my' No make' cheap tyres to wear out. Getting to my weekend destination on the tops was a slip slide affair, there gone!

225 /55 R 17 Latitude Cross XL Have made a big difference. Well worth the money, but not enough snow this year.

no they are not the same tyres although they are both latitudes as said the new one is a latitude cross and the old one is a latitude HP I can not wait to get them on the front they make the freelander look more beefy.

Definitely not. It's the fastest way to trash the VCU, IRD and diff.
I personally wouldn't be fitting 225/55/17 when 225/60/17 or 225/65/17 fit perfectly. If all tyres are being changed anyway, I'd definitely move away from the low profile tyres.
 
I only came home with them on which is less than a mile or 1 and a half kl and back again this morning to get the two new ones on the front as I ordered the same as I had on but Michelin in the wisdom have stopped making the latitude hp and now make the latitude cross ,and they changed the tread patterns the side wall are exactly the same and the tyre place assured me I was ok and they know that why I go there , a nd as soon as I saw them I though those are great looking tyre's and also because I brought them before the 30th of April I get a petrol voucher for £50 ok so that's only £460 with the £50 voucher
 
I'm liking the latitude cross and reviews elsewhere look good.

My TD4 has 16 inch wheels currently with 215 / 65 - can anyone confirm whether a 70 or 75 profile will fit without fouling anything??

70% definitely fit. 75% profile should still clear the strut spring cup. The Freelander standard 16" rims should allow a tyre of 29" in diameter. 215/75/16 are about 28.7" in diameter.
 
Thanks - need 5 now as mine are out of time together - due to careful swapping around and keeping the diameter the same over the last 50k miles.
I'll go for 215 70 16s then which gives about 20mm increase in diameter I think.
 
Just to say,

And shoot me down by all means, would not a tyre size change be a (from a Insurance point of view) be Mod from original spec?? Some thing to consider if you have a bad bump, wrong tyres and so on.

Technically yes. But then everything done to a vehicle that changes it from how it was supplied, is a modification. This includes LED interior lights and better sound systems.
I can't imagine the insurance assessor will check the tyre spec. They're most likely to check the tread is legal and leave it at that.
It's a valid point to bring up though.
