Good day All,

I must say that the thought of having a website that is able to assist with any problems that may arise with any Land Rover that one owns is indeed special.
However I do not seem to be able to negotiate my way through the correct channels to start any "threads", therefore any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I am a liitle unsure as to what has transpired here but I seem to have had an element of success.
My problem is this....... I ran out of fuel in my Dicso TD5 and now am unable to re start the thing. Ihave performed all the requirements in the owners manuel with no joy. It appears to be a fuel starvation problem but I can hear the whining of the fuel pump.Further all the warning light light up like a christmas tree when I tr to start it. Any suggestions

think you have to prime it somehow - not sure how - try doing a search in the disco section

How did you manage to run out ? - on mine I've still got about 3 gallon/100 miles left after the light comes on

After changing the fuel filter my TD5 was a bugger to start.

Ignition off then Go pedal to the floor and try to start the engine but don't let the starter run for more than 30 seconds.

If it doesn't start wait for a minute to let the battery recover and then try the same again.

Mine took 4 attempts at the above to get the fuel system primed again.

Fuel system purging

If the vehicle runs out of fuel, or the fuel level is so
low that the fuel system draws air into the fuel rail,
the fuel rail will need to be purged before the engine
will start. This can be achieved by following the
procedure below.
If this procedure is carried out on a vehicle that
has not run out of fuel or otherwise drawn air into
the fuel rail, it can lead to the engine flooding and
failing to start.
Purge

1. Turn the ignition switch off and wait 15
seconds.

2. Turn the ignition switch to position II and wait 3
minutes (this ensures that the fuel system
purges all the air from the fuel rail within the
cylinder head).

3. Fully depress the throttle pedal.

4. Keeping the throttle pedal fully depressed,
crank the engine.

5. As soon as engine speed exceeds 600 rev/min,
release the throttle pedal and the ignition
switch. The engine must not be cranked
continuously for more than 30 seconds at
any one time.

6. If the engine fails to start, repeat the above
procedure.
