Hi

I'm new to all this so forgive me if I get some of the etiquette wrong.

Anyway what prompted me to join up was to see if anyone can throw some light on the following.

I took my Freelander V6 to a Land Rover dealer as it had a loud tapping noise from the engine. They said it was a recall problem and it would be done under warranty. This was an A151 Engine tune Download to stop valves rattling in the Inlet Manifold apparantly. As my car is 4 years old and out of warranty I was pleased that it would be done free of charge.

Whilst doing the recall they told me there was damage to the manifold as the work wasn't done in time. However they would replace the manifold for me for £800! I didn't take up their offer and so still have the rattle.

Is this a scam for me to pay £800 for work that should be done for free as a recall? Is there a cheaper method of fixing it or does it need repairing at all? Will the engine suffer long term damage if I ignore the noise?

If anyone has a similar experience or has some answers I would be pleased to hear them.

Hi

If you ignore the noise you may well do major damage in the long run. LR dealers are well known for charging insane prices, have you tried a good specialist ?

Hi Charlotte,

Thanks for your views, I'm also concerned about causing more damage in the long run and ending up with a larger bill! Although dealer didn't warn me against driving it in it's current condition. Anyway I'm going to a local garage this week & hope to get a cheaper quote.
