New member old problem? L322 Remote Receiver not working?

Hi, I am a new member and keen to know if someone can help with my L322 not recognising my remote. The local Land Rover chap tried to sync it when it refused to talk to the car but it wouldn't. Car works just fine but can't lock or unlock it. He said the remote receiver is broken and needs another. Is there a way to check this before buying one? Lancaster Land Rover in Reading quoted £86.24 + VAT + fitting. The item on the quote was LC1DF Remote Receiver LXUO500040 but the internet doesnt appear to recognise these numbers? I was hoping to see what the rest of world would charge.
