Firstly, thanks for hosting such a helpful website. I've been scrolling through a range of posts and the information has been great.

I've recently bough my first 4X4 and its a 2003 Freelander TD4 Kalahari. I love it and have given it the nickname of "Louis Landbeast."
The car has loads of niggly problems which I'll try and address myself before i pay a garage to look at it.

I'm a former back street/independent mechanic but moved out the trade as i lost interest in cars/driving/people. However, the Landbeast has rekindled my interest in motor mechanics and driving again.
I talk more about the car than i ever expected!

Work completed (with help from here; Singvogel naming one) has been:

A thorough clean and vacuum, oil and filter change, air, pcv, pollen, turbo vent filter change, gearbox, transfer box and rear differential fluid change, diesel filter change, air con regas, egr replacement, used gear knob, new brake and clutch pedal rubbers and brake lines.

Lots of dramas including changing gearbox oil twice due to spotting a drive shaft oil seal leak and wanting to put some Lucas stop slip additive in. I let the sump plug slip and lost the oil so had to refill with new MTF 94 again.

Also, the diesel fuel filter was dripping and when replaced i found out how fiddly it was to do.

Likewise the pcv filter was awkward with the leak back hose positioning.

The latest problem was today's which prompted me to write this introduction when I locked myself out of the car.
I needed to warm the engine up for a hydrogen air intake clean and learned that locking the car from the centre console, leaving the engine running and shutting the door was a ridiculous idea.
I managed to re-open the doors eventually.

Incidentally, if people are interested how the car performs after a carbon clean i can feedback with my results.

Next issue to tackle is a leaking injector or seal. I've not bought the tools to remove the washers yet.

I found a YouTube channel called "Bodgit and Leggit" who has a section on Freelanders.
Has anyone seen it? The guy is called Leon and I'd recommend watching some of his videos.
