Hi all,

I have a 2003 TD4 kalahari with a couple of problems that you may be able to help with.

Occasionaly it fails to start and the fuel pump in the OSR arch is making a loud buzzing noise...if i leave the car for 10 mins it starts and drives no problem??? Could this be the pump at fault or maybe a clogged filter??

Also my rear tyres are lower on tread than the fronts by a good coulpe of mm...i have heard that this is not good for the drivetrain and they should be replaced with a matched pair??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

pump sounds like it is soon to fail...keep tapping it to get it going but soon enough you will have to replace it. Put your bigger tyres on the back as soon as you can...then look into saving up for a set of 4 of the same...what are the tread dephs like on them?

thanks...im getting the pump checked tomorrow....as for the tyres the fronts are nearly new but not a matched pair. The rears are down to about 4mm so im going to replace them with a new pair asap

matched pairs are always best as different manufactures tyres come up different by a few mm sometimes which may cause the diff in your IRD to overwork on one side.

put even pressure in fronts and measure from road to top of each to ensure same size!
if you can't swap tyres to back then drop front pressures down as this will help the front/back ratio a little. Get new pair on back ASAP though chief

Sure enough, fuel pump dead, pressure was fluctuating all over the place. Now replaced with a new pump and filter so hope that sorts it!
4 new tyres going on Saturday, im just going for more road orientated tyres rather that 4x4 specific as its never used off road, hope it can still cope with the snow
All thats left to do it sort the wobbly exhaust.....must have come off a hanger!
