I have just bought a 2003 Freelander but it only came with one key and I know from old how the fobs can play up after a few years. Does anyone happen to know how much it would cost to get a new one (key and fob) from a landrover dealer and do I need to be sitting down to read the replies?

I'm in a very similar position. 2003 SE recently bought, with only 1 key and no remote. I've purchased a refurbished genuine remote from eBay, with the intention to program it at work using our Launch X431 software. £25 on eBay, so hopefully that will work. As for a spare key, I popped into Timson yesterday, who want £80 to key a spare and program the transponder. I've held off on that for now whilst I look for anywhere cheaper.

I didn't know Timsons did that, I think £80 is probably worth it for piece of mind. The fob is a bit more difficult to sort without access to software etc.

I'm not condoning or recommending it but some folk take the transponder out of the key and glue it to steering column so any key will work. It disables the immobiliser and doesn't give you a working fob but means you only need the key cut and on an 03 car is it really a big issue?

Yeah it's something I'd read and considered but a proper key is less than 3% of what I paid for the car, so not really a lot of money considering.

Bought a new fob on eBay for £30 quid last week. Very easy to program with the Launch X431 (??) We have at work. If anyone Dorset way needs it doing it really is a 30 second job.
