Afternoon!
On friday, I picked up my first ever Land Rover. I've wanted a Land Rover for over 20 years. This one is a 1983 diesel and its got Fairy Overdrive and disco steel wheels running BFG ATs and thats it for the optional extras. It also came with the original steel wheels and tyres too. One tyre is useable. The rest are fit for the bin.
The chassis is very solid. Its had outriggers, and a rear 1/4 chassis done and has been painted too. The quality of the welding is very good too. Its also had new windscreen tops too at some point. One of the footwells has also been patched too. The body is a bit shabby, but it was at the bottom of the price range for series 3s.
Engine seems fine. Smokes a bit on start up, but soon clears. I drove it home over 100 miles and it didn't skip a beat. Temp gauge didn't budge from the middle during the entire journey, even when I was stuck in traffic!
Naturally, its got few bits that I need to fix.
- Speedo cable
- Steering (free play)
- Brakes!
- Door catches
I'm hoping to add some new delux series seats, moutney steering wheel, Delux front bonnet with spare wheel well and some Insa Turbo Dakar tyres, but I'm only doing those when I've sorted the brakes and the steering
Just the one pic of the Landy. I'm sure you all know what one looks like
I'm sure I'll appear with a fair few questions on niggles. I've been a long time lrker on here and it always appears to be the most active Land Rover forum and I look forward to meeting some of you some time soon.
