Afternoon

Recently bought a discovery 2 in great condition. It took me a while to find one with no leaks, good history, no rust on the boot floor etc and finally one came up. I Absolutely love the thing for rolling round the village and going to work and back.

2000 miles and many gallons of petrol later, the only gripe is the nasty tyres on the thing. They're legal and acceptable for dry and damp road but utterly useless in the wet. I'd like some mud tyres and wheels ideally (can't see much In the for sale thread), but I'm unsure what sizes I can have.

After some research I believe:
7J x 16 215/75 R16 Pirelli Scorpion S/T 107T
235/70 R16 Michelin XPC* 105H
235/70 R16 Goodyear Wrangler HP 105H
Alloy wheels: 7J x 16 235/70 R16 Goodyear Wrangler HP 105H
235/70 R16 Michelin XPC* 105H

8J x 16 255/65 R16 Goodyear Wrangler HP 109H
255/65 R16 Michelin XPC* 109H

8J x 18 255/55 R18 Goodyear Wrangler HP 109H

Now basically I want good mud/snow/bad weather tyres (and ideally wheels) at sensible money. What would everyone recommend? Sorry if this is covered ground but I've not found many good results using the search so far. I don't want to cut the arches or amend the car to make them fit!

Thanks in advance! :)

So u expect 'mud' tyres to be good on Tarmac in the wet? and why if you want tyres at " sensible money" and have you listed premium tyres that are all over £100 fitted, try looking at the budget tyres made in Asia.

I've just fitted the Goodyear Wrangler's HP all weather M+S tyres which LR fit as standard on some of their vehicles and which have good reviews.

Nope I never said I wanted them to be good in the wet on Tarmac - I wouldn't be looking at mud tyres if so. I'm not looking for £50 a corner Im looking for something which i s reasonably priced that's all. I'll have a look into what you've suggested, thanks.

No you didn't but you did say about your existing tyres "utterly useless in the wet." and then "I'd like some mud tyres and wheels ideally".

So out of interest what are the existing tyres that are fitted and utterly useless in the wet? which I would think would be very worrying on a 2 ton Land Rover.

I found out once in the snow and that, unlike my normal car, it don't stop even when traveling at 5mph
