Hi folks I'm thinking of building a ccv vehicle out of a discovery striping it down to the chassis then cutting a piece out of it till the wheel base is 80" then welding it back together but I'm wondering if I should get a v8 auto but may have problems with water or a td5 which I have on my defender but will that give me the power I need. If anyone's got any experience I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Jon

When i was competing with my 4.2 v8 bobtail rr
The auto and v8 was incredible the things i was doin on just over tickover the doozil boys had to give it a lot of beans

But even with all the waterproofing ihad done without megasquirting it i just couldnt compete with the doozil boys in the water

CCv trials are laid out with v8s usually in
mind usually you can't have everything and a v8 is by far more durable and if you want to do water factor another £1000-£1200 and have all the power to as and when.

£1000 over an above a motor is nothing can easily spend that on bits n pieces wire switches etc

I did seriously consider megasquirt, theres a company in Salisbury does it,the v8 then becomes unstoppable.

Hi mark I did notice I had put it in the wrong section but it is about offloading as well so ul have to forgive me.
Jai your post is just what I was looking for so I think I will go the same route but I have just bought a p reg 3.9 disco so hopefully that will do the trick the gearbox and engine look fine and are very quiet. Ive been a member of Somerset and Wiltshire club for the last few years and am looking to move up to ccving as rtvings getting a bit tame and I'm going to google "megasquirt" and see what they do. I haven't started my ccv yet but will start taking it to bits over Christmas so if anyone wants any parts message me and I will see what I have left
