aye you can find a 120/150k mileage one for that sort of money.

these engines do 200k miles regular. but it makes sense to get one with 50k less.

I'm looking around £3-4 grand, I've seen just one example, does it sound good, 95 300tdi xs 5 door 7 seats 194000 miles for £3k, are the engines good for this kind of mileage, as someone who's never had any kind of 4x4 what are the things to look for on l=discos in particular I'm clued up on most car buying but these things are bigger and different to other cars.

Personally, I think that's WAY to much to pay!!! I bought my TDi 300 Auto 1994 (L) for £2750, and that was in immaculate condition, with air con and only 104,000 miles of which 80,000 were serviced by a Land Rover dealer.

I've heard it said that a TDi is a tad slow and lethargic when hitched up to a caravan, especially a big one. I may be wrong, but I would suggest you buy a V8, or perhaps a V8 LPG conversion (don't get one with more than 100,000 miles though - the LPG unit often starts to fail after that milestone).

However, whatever you go for, the most important points are service history (if it hasn't got a service history don't touch it), chassis corrosion, excessive oil loss (head gaskets are a problem) Try to find one that hasn't been off-roaded too much. Leaky front screens and alpine (upper ) windows are a problem, which you may see as a green mould around the seals or water 'tracks' down the interior plastic. If the turbo hisses at you excessively, then its probably on its way out. Don't listen to the seller if he tells you 'it's supposed to do that' - it isn't.

Check out Ebay, there are loads for sale, and it's a great exercise for you to get familiar with selling tactics, problems with Disco's, and price guides - if you put some of the better Disco's in your watched items, you can track them through to purchase, and see how much they went for.

I have a 300TDI for sale, in green (proper colour), 95k FSH No rust, new discs wheel bearings, recent alternator and clutch.4 New tyres 5ooo miles ago. Has electric windows but no A/c or any thing fancy! Has the peeling dashboard thing going on but you can get an easy fix £50. Full towing gear and electrics, though i haven't used this so i would have to check this out, Has been ultra reliable for me. I am/was asking £3500 ono to a good home. Like i say nothing fancy just a good honest Disco. I bought a D II V8 ES, and to be quite honest it's a close run thing which one i like driving the best. The 300TDi is real lazy engine pulls hard from no revs and little point revving it past 2900.
