Hi,

My first posting, full of doom and gloom....

Any advice on the best place to get a secondhand 1.8 Petrol engine (with some sort of Guarantee) or even a recon one. In in Surrey/South London borders.

Wouldn't have this problem if I stopped driving when the gasket went...
You live and learn.

All help greatfully received.

if you have it rebuilt...quick tip from my race engine building days...get the engine builder to 'O' ring the block - it will never blow again.

Hi nije,

What do you mean by "to 'O' ring the block" please ? Is that a special procedure or so ??

Sorry to hear that but have got the remote thermostat fitted to your FL? If you have not this fitted make sure you put a new remote thermostat coz the way the old thermostat meaures the temp from the radiator not directly measure the temp from the engine. With the remote thermostat, they place tht thermostat in diff place so that it measures the temp of the engine. Probably you want to talk to this guy about their remote thermostat http://www.qednet.demon.co.uk/ . good luck!

If you are looking around breaker's yards or in the classified for a cheap runner, don't forget that the same unit (K-series) was fitted to the Rover 200/400 and the MG F.

There might be easy compatability with Rover 1.6 engines as well if you were desperate.

Cheers

Blippie

1.6 litre engine in a Freelander, no thanks. 1.8 litre is bad enough, 1.6 is just rude. But like you say, desperate times call for desperate measures ;)
