Hi everyone, we are new here So glad we have found this forum
Really need advice on what you would do in our situation. We have just purchased a Landrover 2.5 TD5 GS, registered in 2000 from a used car dealer (not a 4x4 dealer though he'd got two Disco's in, one being our purchase , this isn't our first Disco, had 2 previously a 300 TDI and another TD5)
Anyway, we viewed this particular Disco Sunday 29th Nov, were told it had 5 previous owners, though never got to see the Log book (yep should have known ) offered £2,500 in p/x for our 55 plate Mondeo. Went away to think about it.
Rang the car dealer back on the Mon 29/11, and asked if they would put a new MOT on the disco (current one didn't run out until 05/11) serviced (oil & filter change, and also not been recorded in the service book) original n.o plates put on (private plates on it, and when checked them it on insurance, it came back as a different vehicle altogether) which was done and 3 mths warranty given. Also asked if they would tax it for 12 mths and we would pay them when we picked it up. The dealer happy to do all this, so I paid £100 deposit.
Went to collect the Disco today (4th) and pay further balances on the car and for the 12 mths tax. We were told the tax had been put in the car, so it was all prepared for us. Told the log book had been sent off, though not given the slip from the Disco Log book.
Today at 15.30, we had parked up at B&Q, displayed our son's blue badge in the front passenger side window, so I got out the car, to make sure the badge was visable, and then noticed the tax disc wasn't even for that car, and it was a 6 mth tax at £99, this Disco costs £112 something for 6 mths
Got home at 16.00, and rang the dealer, to be told the valeter had put the wrong tax disc in the disco (though told this morning, the disc had been put in) anyway we had to take the disco back to the dealer, until the tax is sorted (possibly mon morning)
Dropped the disco off at 16.30, keys for it left with the dealer, docs left with us, and we were given the keys for our p/x Mondeo to have until the disco tax is sorted.
Tonight at 19.00, (which I know we should have done before, but honestly didn't have any worries before all this) alarm bells were ringing, so we did a HPI check through the HPI website for the disco, and it came back as an insurance write off (CAT D) in 2003 against an OFFL and then again in 2004 against a Mondeo LX.
So to be honest, we are at a loss as to where we stand here. The HPI results show that the two write offs were against one of the private plates the car has had, and there's nothing against its original plate, can anyone help here please
