Mystery Purple Wire

Finally got round to building my own wiring loom for Edith (1989 ninety TD) - or more accurately the chassis loom as the old one had been eaten by mice and sabotaged by previous owners.

WHAT THE HELL is the thicker purple wire, the Mystery Purple Wire, running along its length as I can find no mention of a purple wire in the electrical drawings and its an original loom (albeit with a rear tank, so probably a loom for a 110).

it didn't seem to be used so I'm considering leaving it out.

Any clues? The only purple wire I can find on the drawings is for the lighter and sure enough its on the main bulkhead loom, but this loom runs engine bay to rear.

An optional rear din socket maybe?

is yer doing yer own loom make sure you include a few "spare" wires

you'll be supprised how handy they will be - eventually

so could be that socket then - maybe i'll bung one in as I've got two HD din sockets kicking about.

Yes - I'm running an 8 wire thinwall cable bundle up the OS chassis rail and a 5 wire one with heavier duty cables up the NS - should do for now, but the idea for future expansion only came to me yesterday, so thanks!

another trick is to get a couple of fuse blocks and fit inside around the dash - saves gettin em wet;)

The only purple wire in that area that i can find is for the trailer lighting socket for Switzerland and the rest of world models (exc UK & USA)and seems to go to the RH stoplamp.

Hang on and I'll scan the one out of myLR handbook. it'll take about 10 minutes though as My laptop crashed big time yesterday and I hac to wipe the hdd and start again so need to install printer software.

Thanks redhand - I'm stopping any wiring for now anyway as my knowledge is limited until the Haynes Font Of Knowledge arrives today from Amazon.

Moving on to plumbing in my two fuel tanks to the switchgear valves and further terrifying veg oil control wiring loom action. but it's snowing. so may just get on with some planning permission drawings by the fire

isn't purple normally accessories? mine has a purple to the trailer pickup, but also goes to the rear door light.....i used this to trickle charge the battery in my moto-x trailer as well

which valves are you using?, the circuit diagram that comes with the Pollack valves is very clear and can be used as a generic circuit

Sean - ATG ones - their diagrammes are good too - it's just the enormous bundle of wires is scary when viewed alongside the ENORMOUS bundle of mostly disconnected wires on my bulkhead.

When it said "lable the wires as you disconnect them" and I asumed I'd remember where they all went, so didn't - I was wrong.

Just a case of taking my time with the wiring diagrammes now. Own fault!
