First off, hello, I will introduce myself in the relevant area on the forum, don't worry ;-)
Anyway, been driving 12 year, have full no claims, and I am buying a 1970 109.
I just did a quick quote online to get a rough idea, limited to 5000 miles and it came back at £1400! Thats more than it is for my highly modified Volvo v70t5!!! Anyway, I changed my job title from doorman to security guard and it went to £600!!!

Any ideas as to what companies I should be ringing to get a decent quote?
Any tips welcomed. Cheers. ;-)

Insurance baffles me, 3rd party is more expencive that fully comp, and Ive just bought a freelander and pay twice as much than the BMW328 sport I had before..... What is frustrating to me is you have to go to a Government approved place for your MOT, same for VED yet you can get your insurance from some pretty crappy companies who seem to be after your money for that year, When I started Driving I was with the same insurer for years and felt looked after, Now because of the stupid amounts they charge.....

Iv got a 4.4 v8 rangie that's half the price to insure than my 1.9tdi caddy van

Makes no sence atall

My Escort Van 1.8D cost twice as much as my current RR to insure, when I had the van I had some no claims to my name too. The price went up when I reach that holy grail of 25 rather than the down I had been promised by everyone. I seem to have saved money by actually losing my no claims as the best quotes I was getting before were nudging a grand.

I once broke into an insurance companies office all super secret squirrel style to see how it works, the truth might shock but not really surprise you.

They take all of the numbers in your policy (age, dob, years held licence, house number, phone number, numbers from your reg, vehicle age, engine size, etc.), throw them all in a big purple hat and pull out numbers at random. The first number decides how many digits will be in your quote. That relates to how many further numbers are drawn from the big purple hat.

Hahahaha now that does make sence.

I now have a fleet of 5 vans. My renewal just came around and it came in at £6780!!!! And my broker said it was the best price they could get. So I shopped around abit and got a quote for £4880 from someone else. So I rang my broker and said I needed my fleet experience document. And funnily enough the purple bag must have worked in my favour, the original price that was the best they could do suddenly dropped by £2k!

I pay the same every month for my fleet as I do for a whole year on the rangie

So therefor I believe your purple bag technique to be correct. Also I use a similar technique when quoting jobs lol
