According to DVLA and my new registration document, my Land Rover
Defender is a "4X4 Light Utility Vehicle", a LUV - which at least is
better than being called a bloody SUV!!!!

I was wondering if other vehicles have their transmission details
recorded in this way or is it just a Land Rover thing. The Auto bit
comes under Model/Type.
In fact my body type is a Station Wagon. I may ask DVLC if I can change
it.

Rich innit, I spent 18 mths trying to get DVLA to classify my 12 seat CSW,
drove for 6mths without an MoT due to being advised by DoT in Kent that it
was a Dual Purpose LUV so did not need an MoT after 12 mths. Then when
applying for Tax found that yes it does need an MoT at 12 mths ( classed as
a minibus; Red Ken won't give me exemption from CC because the V5 does'nt
give seat capacity ) blah balh blah. Now it is a LUV
........................ wish the ar.......es would get it correct.

I have a registration document for a deceased Suzuki LJ80 (pre SORN days)
which descibes the vehicle as a "Suzuki Landrover Jeep". That should be
enough to upset the purists...

If you look at the "vin" plate on a suzuki 410/413 santana , it says
"santana, landrover"

I used to have a 1950's Austin K9 and when registering it for an age related
number they asked for a description of the vehicle. As I had restored it to
tow a Mowbat anti tank gun I put down on the paperwork that it was a Light
Field Artillery Tractor. The documentation came back as an Agricultural
Machine and I paid about 20 quid a year

Santana was/is a Spanish company that assembled Land Rovers from kits,
they also made gearboxes for Land Rover. The Santana boxes were stronger
than the standard and as such were fitted to V8 110s, 130s etc. normally
coupled to a Salisbury back end.

They also assembled the Suzuki 410/413 Santanas so I suppose the VIN
plate is referring to the company.

My 93 LWB Shogun is described as an Estate. Maybe DVLA are changing the
description of new vehicles in case a future govenment wants to limit where
a 4x4 can be driven.

My Y reg "Model/Type: Discovery TD5 ES" is also a "Body Type: Estate"
but no doubt this is just a reprint of the orginal records made in May
2001 with my name/address as the keeper.
