MPG Monitors

hiya

ive spent hours on end going through the endless posts about the OBD2 connector

ive got a 2002 TD4 auto and have been searching for ages of a software program etc that will show my the live mpg data

i know that pre 2004 on a diesel it isnt suppose to work but some of the posts here are from 2008-09

as time has gone by i was wondering if anyone has managed to actually get some software that works please and shows a live mpg data readout please.

im not bothered about it being able to clear codes etc, but mainly wish to get it for the mpg.

if there are ones that you guys have fitted and works was wondering if anyone would be so kind to tell me what the unit is called, i dont wish to spend 100's of pounds on a unit but dont mind £100 for one, but dont wish to shell out unless i know it works first.

ive emailed endless companies and they just dont bother emailing me back,

maybe its just me,lol

sorry mate, as always like a bus they come in two's what an idiot i am as usual,

this may sound a daft question but as mine is a 2002 diesel is it 100 percent compatable with mine and as the link shows the unti in dollars is there a difference between the uk and usa version or do they sell them in the uk

No worries.

Mine is an 06 TD4 but as far as I know OBDII is a standard so it should be OK on yours (assuming the 02MY is OBDII compliant as well). I don't think there's a country specific problem as it's reading and displaying information from the ECU. It's a nifty gadget. I have mine set to show Water temperature, Road Speed, MPG and Engine RPM.

Thanks for the reply, it was just I thought I read somewhere about it being prior to 2004

Ideally it would be fantastic if I was able to plus one of these units into my FL to see if it worked prior to me buying one

i've one on a 2006 td4 .. and i cannot rely on it for accurate mpg readings
might be 'cause i've a synergy tuning box installed .. i don't know for sure ..
i use fillups for mpg calculations ..

Just out of interest, why is it so important to you? You can work this out on back of a fag packet!

That looks good, will have to save up and get one of those. Will come in handy for when I'm towing the caravan to see what fuel consumption I'm getting.

i use mine predominantly for an accurate mph reading ..
'cause the steering wheel always blocks the dial view .. plus the dial is inaccurate anywayz
also can view the alternator voltage .. and battery voltage on shutdown ..

as for mpg .. i just note down the mileage 'n liters at fillup ..
figure it out on a calculator ( 1 gallon uk = 4.54 liters )
be freebee mobile phone apps that will do the same ..
( e.g. 'MPGcalc' for iphone )

Thanks for the replies

Would prefer to get a gauge as I do work it out on fill ups etc

But with a mpg monitor if I just partly filled the tank would be a lot easier to use a monitor than having to keep working it out all the time

Including having a synergy box where I can alter the settings as I go along and therefore could watch the monitor to get optimum mpg

I can't be the only one with a 2002 freelander prior to the obd2 introduction who would benefit

Will just have to keep looking

Like the time when the dealers said it was impossible to fit the OEM cruise control unit to a freelander

Surely there has to be something that will work with my year FL, just don't like giving up at the first hurdle and manufacturers don't ever wish to try and help you any more as the amount of emails I've sent out in the past they just don't bother answering

Checked out the links and really appreciate the help but they all say it won't work with a car prior to 2004
