Are rollbars of any help in preventing injury in a Mercury Mountaineer? Are
"suspension stabilizers" of any use in helping to prevent rollover in this
vehicle? I a saw a website for RollGard by Amtech Corporation which sells one
of these "stabilizers". Thanks for any answers.

They make very little difference IMHO.

The only thing that makes a significant difference to the relative safety
levels of any given vehicle is the skill of the driver, in particular the
drivers ability to anticipate rather than react. If you feel your driving
skills are insufficient to allow for the different handling characteristics
of a vehicle with a higher centre of gravity, it is advisable to buy
something lower.

Alternatively, an advanced defensive driving course is a much better answer
because avoiding the accident alltogether is preferable to trying to limit
the likelihood of a rollover when you do crash.

HTH.

I do not know of any vehicle that comes with a 'roll bar'!

They are all 'sport bars' and are only hooked to the body, not the
frame.

In a slow tip over, they will do a good job, but in an accident at speed
situation where you 'roll' over, they are iffy at best.

A stabilizer is a shock to limit body roll, and yes any of them will
help preventing a roll or tip. So does an anti sway bar.

Nothing will help it turn like a sports car though, it just don't work
that way. A Tall vehicle is easy to tip period.

Then a sports car sure can't go places an SUV can, so...

Meanwhile, I have tipped my Jeep CJ7 twice on it's side at low speeds
and the bar did it's job just fine.... Stopped me from going all the
way over onto the top, with a soft top eh.

Julian, I plan to take the advanced driving lessons regardless of what else I
do. Thanks for your answer.

Great - it really is down to the drivers, not the cars IMHO! :)
