Well, George went in for the test and failed, quite spectacularly on emissions!

Almost 8 (allowance is 3.00) running on LPG

Now I know the LPG is ancient, but it runs, so why such a huge amount of emissions?

I rather suspect an O2 sensor (left bank) because a wire has been damaged somehow and repaired using a crimp connector and while I was under with the tester, we could see the mess of corrosion.

That and the fact she's been on her belly for FIVE years  Last test was April 2010!

However, he was really really hard on the car, checked everything with a fine tooth comb and I was happy for him to do so, After all, lying that length of time who knows what could be knackered?

So I took her home and drivers window decided to crap out half way down. I can hear the BCM relay clicking so looks like it could be the motor. I had to pull the motor away from the door so I could pull the window up because it was ****ing rain. Then the plip wouldn't lock, I can only assume because I disconnected the motor.

Who designs this pish

Don't care, locked it with key and stomped inside.

Tomorrow, I will mostly (STILL) be slagging off the clown who designed all that sh!te electronics as well as buying a new lambda. Then, visiting the breaker to get a BCM and motor as fan motors.

Bah :(

Are you still allowed to rummage around breakers yards armed with a set a spanners? Elfen Safety has taken over here, and the masses aren't allowed anywhere near the cars anymore incase someone trips over a bolt or takes out an eye on a car aerial :(

Yeah, John has been in the biz for a million years and he's right round the corner from work. Double bonus

I miss the days of going to the breakers yard, finding a knackered shopping trolley with only three wheels and dragging it around filling it with bits for my car. :)

It was most definitely LPG, but I rather think the petrol had filled the exhaust system now that I think back. I still need to fix that sensor because the broken/repaired wire is a right mess, so very likely to cause high resistance or even open circuit if it has crumbled inside the plastic cover of the crimp.

I may have said before, but I initially thought she had sat for 3 years, but apparently it's five, so the LPG must be almost useless. It runs on it, but wont go past 30mph. On Petrol, I had her up to...ahem...85mph  AND cruise works!

However, last night the window packed in and then the SRS light came on.

So much fun packed into such a small package. Tower blocks don't give this much bloomin trouble :(

Happy days enjoy. Think what you will learn sorting it. ;);)

Well, what DID we find?

Here is the reason I decided on new sensors

I decided to not get cheapies, and instead got these fella's

So, first we tackled the O2 sensors, which were not only super tight, but when we did get them going, they ripped he threads to shreds, which meant removing them from the vehicle. Not such a big deal...until two studs snapped off on the drivers side.

Anyway, we managed to get the old sensors out and tapped a thread in both cats, inserted the new sensors and tackled the broken studs.

Now at this point I should be mentioning my friend, Ian Gray of G&M Motors, Corntown, nr Connon Bridge, Black Isle, Highland.

Why such a blatant plug?

Well, thanks to his amazing strength, fabulously equipped garage and my tenacity (some say annoying repeating the same thing over and over...), we got George not only fixed, but in such a capacity as to pass the mot

That's correct, George is now legal and on the road ;)

Anyway, studs heated to glowing, they STILL argued and fought to the very last mm of thread

But, all done, cats re-fitted and gearbox mount bolted back up, we then did the spark plug leads and found the reason for George's dirty black hole!

Right hand bank

Left hand bank

MICE! They ate through two of the plug leads on the drivers side, which explained everything, the misfire, the lack of power and the destruction of the sensors and many gallons of petrol!

This brought the CO all the way down and allowed me to breath a sigh of relief.

Working this morning, but after that, George will have new oil and filters as well as new sparks.

So, I guess all I can ad to this tale is...

YEEEEE HARRRRR........:p

Oh and if you've ever wondered what lives inside an O2 sensor...

We ended up using a grinder to chop it in half in order to get a socket on it and tear it out (didn't have a deep 22mm).

So that's it for now. Will take some pics of the plugs & filters later, just because :D
