Disco 1 mot/cat problem

Just signed up and I am having a problem this year getting a mot on my 94 v8 discovery due to no cat being fitted. I know that cats are required from September 92. My discovery has a performance exhaust system with headers fitted instead of the power sucking stock exhaust manifolds. Hence you cannot refit a cat for a mot. Never been a problem in the past but now 2 garages have failed it.
Was there a exemption for land rover up to 1995 as they were classed as agricultural vehicles or is this a old tale told to me by some old school landy boys I used to know.
I am in mid cornwall and I have already spend £90 on mots and £12 on petrol. I would be very grateful for any useful advice.

If catalytic converter/s were fitted new at the factory they now have to fitted at the MOT test.

I never heard of an "exemption" the MOT cat rule has only been around a couple of years, I'm surprised your disco passed the emissions test without cats, unless your running on BBQ gas.
