Hi all, I'm looking into buying a parts car (p38) and have two options at the moment. One has Hurricane wheels, the other has Mondials. Just wondering which of the two are the most desirable/valuable wheels?

What are the cars? Year same as yours, Diesel/petrol?

You buying it for the wheels or spares?

Hurricane wheels are homologated for the P38, I don't know the Mondials but never heard of them on a P38, do the have the correct weight rating?

One is a '97, the other I don't know yet. They're diesels, mine's a petrol. Mostly buying it for interior parts, wheels and the rear seats. Idea is to pick/swap what I need and sell it.

Yeah they're a factory 18" wheel, the ones that are star shaped. I quite like them but I also like the Hurricanes. So in terms of taste it doesn't matter much to me.

FYI here are pics of the Mondials and Hurricanes on similar p38 (colour & year).

How hard are parts to get where you are?

May be worth taking a lot more off and just weigh it in. Lots of valuable parts left if they are good.

I think Hurricanes are by far the nicer looking Alloy.
Comets look a bit chavy
And the Modials look like they have come of a cheap plastic Ferrari toy car.

Sorry if I've insulted somebody's wheels. We all have different tastes.

My project car has them . . . . .but they were on the car when I got it, so I didn't choose them. They are not on the LRSV doc either, so probably changed by one of the 9 previous owners.

They are all ok, I prefer the Comets, given a choice, but, I don't like the 3 spoke ones that are on some P38s.

You do have one of the better colours though. I bought green as it was mechanical sound but was ideally looking for blue. But the colour has grown on me a lot.

I went to look at the one with the Hurricane wheels and its a complete shed 😅 Right rear quarter window broken and stored like that outside for half a year, luckily against a wall... Lots of mould inside. Only pro is that it has the rear seats and they're in good nick. (Context: in Belgium almost all these RR are converted to a van by removing the rear seat, for fiscal/tax reasons. Most are missing the rear seats, like mine). They want too much money for it so my eyes are turning towards the one with Mondials.

Hmmm and what about Triple Sports 🤔 Kinda like the look as a hint towards the classic RR.

I'decided 16 inch will be the best choice but 18 inch allows me to get the tyre I want, the Michelin CrossClimate2:

Seem to have a thread which would be somewhat competent on grass and gravel/dirt

We’ve had Cross Climate on our Citroen C8 for a few years and they’re super sticky on the road, always superb grip and should be good for a RR but not sure about how they will effect your MPG given the rolling resistance. If you get them let us know.
Cheers, Tricky
