mixing winter tyres front and rear axel

Can I purchase 2 manufactures winter tyres , fit 2 to front and the different 2 to the rear ? on a Freelander 2 ( 2009) or do they all need to be the same ? ( manufacturers say all the same ) I'm getting conflicting info as some indications say I can have the front and back different ( as long as both at front are the same and both at the rear are the same ) please help ! Welcome to the forum

Ideally all 4 tires the same. If not then make sure the tires on the same axle are the same. Tires with the deeper tread on the rear. Make sure all tires are the same size. Try to keep the tread pattern/style the same on all 4 tires.
