Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying the smaller version of the Shogun (what they call the
Pinin Pajero here in France). It appears to come out worse in all the
comparisons I've run against the Rav4, X-Trail etc. but it a hell of a lot
cheaper than the others and is well equipped. Could anyone give their
opinions ? If it really is a disaster on the road, I'll stay away but I'm a
bit wary of journalists so I'd rather have users' opinions.

Don't know about cheaper - our 2.0 Equippe 5-door auto was listed at £16995
in June 2002. It's allegedly much better off-road than most other small SUVs
having the full set of 2 or 4WD and high or low ratios with a centre diff
lock. On road it's quite nippy, although a bit hard on suspension (it is a
real 4WD after all). Normal driving is about 30mpg, towing a caravan
(1100kg) about 20mpg - shame they don't do a diesel.

Here in France, its about 2.500-3.000 Euros cheaper than the Rav4, X-Trail,
CRV, Freelander etc. The best model at the moement appears to the Rav4 but
it is so expensive and you have to wait about 3 months afetr ordering.

It is certainly tough and a real little off roader. The UK
representatives of Mitsubishi Motors have been campaigning one in the
Goodyear British Off Road Championship for the last two seasons with
incredible success.

From personal experience they are definitely worth a look. My
recommendation would be to go and drive one and its rivals and make a
judgement from there.
