Hi there, I am trying to replace the lambda sensor on my wifes 97 1.8 freelander. I purchased a decent one from ebay and have come to fit it today and I cant find where the old one is?! Have an official landrover RAVE disc and when I looked under the car to see where the sensor was supposed to have been located in the exhaust pipe and there was nothing there, had another quick look at the RAVE instructions and went and pulled off the gear stick boot to disconnect the plug inside the apperature at the back of the gear stick and there is nothing there! Not even a sign where one may have been mounted or any sign of the aperature/grommet where the cable goes through the floor! Should my freelander have one? Is it somewhere else? thanks for your help and replies in advance.Rob

It failed MOT on emissions and was told it was the Lambda sensor. On the rave instructions it doesnt state that my model and vin number doesnt have a sensoe and I would assume , because it has a CAT within the exhaust system that it would have one. I have tried searching many forums and the web and cant see anywhre that states the freelander dosnt have a sensor - confused

Yup should be on the back of the exhaust manifold with the electrical connector for it sitting under a bracket on the n/s of the engine (atleast the later ones are :) )

Thanks for your help guys, found the bugger in the end, yep on back of manifold as you stated, took longer to get the bloody underside panel protector off than anything! And after all that I have the wrong sensor! seems the RAVE manual is lacking in some detail as it doesnt show this sensor on the manifold, perhaps landrovers lack of attention to detail wasn't just on their cars!! Oh well at least I know where it is when I get the correct sensor, thanks again.

You could have just changed it from the top if the undertray was that much of a problem :)

Also , i think the sensors are quite cheap and easily available from the scrappers as its the same sensor as on the rover and rover mg, k series cars. Though someone might correct me?

I think you are right, any K series one should work
