Well, maybe.

My 110 CSW was noisier inside than the missus's similar 90.

A lot of engine noise seemed to come from the gear lever area. I took off the rubber gaiter and found that the foam insulation piece underneath had fallen down on to the gearbox, leaving a gap around the edges.

I fitted a new foam insulation block (Land Rover part no. ETX500050) although l could probably have refitted the old one.
The difference is substantial, a lot quieter, but the gearbox is right underneath that gaiter so l suppose that's why.

This post has faded out with no interest.

But believe me, it's worth checking. Only takes five minutes and makes more difference than fitting an under bonnet soundproofing kit at over £100

I found this aswell. I used the original plus a another layer I made up on top. Difference is substantial.

Secondly I dont agree. All the sound proofing work I have done to mine has made a considerable difference. Especially since its a daily

More of a 'restore to standard noise level' than an 'improvement in noise level' as that part is fitted out of the factory. But worth checking nonetheless.

Sound can get through gaps well. I had a 110 with the cover plate missing off the clutch pedal box and the noise was incredible.

These defender things sound luxurious compared to my series 2. Foam around the gearbox????
I've get metal as my sound proofing. It's not very effective.

Thars a big poofta, real men have series 2 with rattly 200 tdi power:D

Sorry I cant hear either of you:D

I did try a decibel meter in the cab once, it was very noisy! sliding the drivers side window open allowed the noise to resonate less and made a massive difference to the readings.

Have to say I enjoy driving it much more than the 90.

I remember racing (if thats the right word) a 200 90 from the lights , he won just but couldnt work out why I was right behind him all the way:p
