Hi,

I bought a Freelander 2, 2009 a few months ago. All in all everything has worked very well.
Occasionally, I have had a battery warning, but nothing that has been causing any problem.
Before summer, I parked the car, locked it and put the key inside the house as like every day.
4,5 weeks later when I came back I was about to take a drive.
I tried to open the car, but nothing happened. Totally dead. The red light at the dashboard blinked as it should.
I have only one key, so I couldn´t try another.
Pulled out the physical key to open the drivers door, but couldn´t open with that either.
Ok, perhaps low battery in the key - changed the battery - same result.
Can´t open the doors!!!

So, what to do next?????
Could it be the main battery that is low? If so, how to open the bonnet and charge it?
Is there any other way to open the door without smashing a window?
Any other solutions?

Getting desperate to have the car outside the house but unable to use it.
So please HELP!!
 
The Freelander 2 goes into low power mode if it's been left locked for more than 28 consecutive days, or the battery drops below a set voltage. Once in low power mode, the only way into the vehicle is via the emergency key lock in the passenger door.
This is often when issues can appear, as nobody checks the passenger door lock works when purchasing the vehicle, only discovering an issue once it's too late to remedy the situation.

It's possible that the door lock has either seized through lack of use, or the lock or fob has been changed for some other reason in the past.

Try some WD40 on the lock first, to see if it starts to work again.
Breaking a window doesn't help, as the doors are deadlocked from the inside too.

I have used WD40 several days ago, and a few days later also, but no success.
So what you say, it´s nothing to do other than scrap the car?
There must be a way in and to solve this issue I think.
How else can it be a car that are sold. I´m sure I´m not the first one with this problem?

There is a way in, but it's going to be a locksmith or LR dealer job. Unfortunately modern security systems are very resistant to entry without specialist help.

So it's specialist help then. It's probably best to contact an LR dealer to enter the vehicle, and arrange a second key too, as having just 1 key for these is asking for trouble.
For future reference, only buy a vehicle with both keys supplied, as 1 key isn't secure or helpful when it all goes wrong. ;)
 
I guess I will have too.
Contacted one in the area but they have the next appointment time late October.
Perhaps a locksmith can help me to get i to the car as a start?

The car will start just fine, unless the battery is flat. Getting in is the issue, as they're designed not to accessible to anyone without a fob, or working emergency lock.
 
Is there no way to attach a battery from under the car with jump leads, to help open the locks that way, i have never looked into it?

The problem is the vehicle enters low power mode, after which the only way in is via the emergency key in the LH door. I've had the same thing happen to my TD4 and I6 if left locked for more than 28 days. Thankfully I checked both emergency keys worked before parting with any money when I bought the vehicles, as I'd been caught out with my D3 emergency key not working.
 
I finally managed to get in to the car.
The alarm set off, I put the fob in to the car, pressed the start and everything worked.
So, I must have encountered the "low power mode" and the car is now working as it should.

I have now also programmed one more key fob just to be sure to have a spare.
Just need to get the blank key in that to match the door :)
