Maf woes

Hi,

I have a 2.2 puma.

Engine warning light came on. Went in to limp and then after pulling over usual on off i managed to get to work where the rac vhap came and took a look told me it was p0101 and that i should keep an eye kn my maf wiring as it was cracked

It was due a services in a week or two so took it to the main dealer for an early service and for an investigation as to the light. I told them about the code from the rac. They inspected it, told me it was the elbow down from the turbo, replaced the part and sent me on my way.

The light came on on my way home... i took it back and they have told me its a different problem and itll be another 250 to look into it. I argued with them for a long while and then have asked for my keys back.

Attached is the photo of the wiring and also the write up from them.

The vehicle sounded more throaty on the way home and the light would come on under acceleration.

I can take apart the plug and re wire or solder another one on.

What do you all think

The elbow from the turbo is a known failure problem and a replacement part from the turbo to the intercooler is a recall replacement so should have been at no cost to you. The other common problem is the intercooler itself, the alloy core splits along the joints at the plastic end boxes. You will need to inspect it carefully as it is hard to see due to the general arrangement of parts, you will need to remove the cowl over the cooling fan and remove front the grille to get a better look, and a torch to light up the area between the intercooler and cooling rad, and between the aircon condenser and intercooler if fitted. Splits in the intercooler, in the hoses between the turbo and intercooler and inlet manifold will show P0101 fault codes. First instinct is to replace the MAF sensor but usually its doing its job and the fault is physical.

Thanks for that, I had the turbo hose at the front near side done about 2 years after buying it, they replaced that under warrenty. The elbow hose this time round was charged for and they were not of a mind to do it for free! :(

I replaced the intercooler with a aluminium one from alive as the original split (I'm not running a remap or any other form of tuning), this was after I replaced the MAF for an official one from LR as they said that this was the problem. however did state that ones fitted if this didnt fix the problem there was no returning the part as it was electrical.

The report says they did a smoke check and that came back clear.

I'll get the cowl out this afternoon and have a look my self.

Check your exhaust gas temp and oxygen sensors security/wiring/connections. I have read of the fault light coming on under acceleration due to a problem with these.
