Hi all seem to be working my way through all the bits on the td4 fuel system, looks like it is time to change the maf sensor lost power going up hills and just when ever you worked it a bit hard, disconnected maf sensor and all back to normal except a bit of smoke when cold, question is what to buy, have seen people say the bosch can be a pain if the one before failed?, people talk about using the pierburg unit but it needs a tuning box, which I do not really want or you can use a pierburg 7.22684.11.0 straight but the place I found one says may not work with freelander td4,
question is what works best ?
many thanks Ian

Bosch is the one to use, after market ones fail quickly, make sure you get a genuine one, they do not come without the whole body assembly so be aware of fakes.

A genuine one will have F00C 2G2 029 inside and made in Germany.

It will also have an Hologram on the box.

When you buy genuine you gat a good warranty on it, choose carefully and ask all the right questions, and give your reg to the seller.

Thanks auto doc want 239€ for a bosch one but have to pay 12 delivery and 25 pound import if i get it from ebay which is a pain, going to UK next month wonder if they will let me take it on the plane?

I'm sure you could find one on ebay that would post to France without any import costs, even it would be less than auto doc want, today i removed the security screws from this one below which i purchased from ebay for a friends car which we are working on, seller says it was in spec when removed, we will not know until it's been fitted.

Stainless steel screws added instead of security ones, easy to fit because we have done the air filter box mod.

Air filter MAF mod so you can remove the MAF easier or to unplug it if you had to due to limp mode.

Problem is if the duty is not paid and the paperwork done often it is charged here which can be more than the bit cost, it is odd if I buy something from China normally there is no duty because it item is only small value anything from Ebay UK I get charged on, what gets me is the bit is £100 of which £20 is vat and then I have to pay TVA (French vat) on it as well and just to take the **** £4 is TVA on the VAT but it is what it is and all in all it is still a good price
Just out of interest have you ever taken one off cleaned it and it worked after?

I have several times brought car bits to France for friends. Once the rear valance for a hatchback, another time a rear window mech for a different two seater, might be a Mitsubishi. They apparently break for a pastime as this is the second they have had to do. They are Dutch but to buy the part from the one bloke in the world who holds parts for this very rare model, as it was only made for a little while, is an arm and a leg.
So he tried to order it from some bloke in Germany but he cannot sell them in the EU! Some paperwork problem, but they can sell them in the UK!
So matey orders, it gets it delivered to friends of ours in the UK and we bring it over for him once we've gone back and then come back to France.
Totally flipping mad.

Yes we have cleaned a few at our local meets we have through out the year, clean only with contact cleaner they may or may not work after if they do then it is for a short time only.

Even brand new ones can be out of spec, and you only find out once it has been fitted and checked on a T4 or Hawkeye, if you do not have access to those then you will find out by poor performance or the car goes into limp mode, also if you unplug the MAF and you get better performance then that tells you to suspect the MAF.
