Hi all,

Will introduce myself first - been reading and taking advice from the forum for a couple of years now, since I bought an '04 Freelander TD4. Replaced the HP pump, alternator, air con clunch, drop link and clutch master (x2) so far (there's more I'm sure!)... I've driven Land Rovers since I was a kid, learnt to drive in a v8 SIII and my first car was a 200tdi Defender so its the badge that's keeping me happy at the moment!

I've got a couple of questions if anyone can help me.
I changed the MAF sensor a couple of days ago (with a Pierburg 7.22684.11.0) due to lack of power under 2k revs/turbo, I've only had 3 short trips out so far but there's still no change, should I be waiting for a sudden improvement after 100 miles or so or should I start looking elsewhere for a problem?

The other thing is, since I bought the car I've noticed a strange pulsating droning and very slight vibration coming from the front of the car when driving over 70mph - It comes in at around 70 and is easily noticeable when cruising at 75-80 (French autoroute). I can live with it as it's not uncomfortable and has got no worse since I first noticed it but I'd like to get to the bottom of it if anyone can give me an idea of what it could be.
I think it's the engine not a wheel bearing/tyres as the noise stops if I dip the clutch, but I was wondering if it could perhaps be part of the drive train that's making the noise but only when under load? The VCU assembly is off the car currently as I need to replace the bearings :)bored:), so that has been ruled out.

Much thanks for any advice!

am under the impression that for the standard td4 the correct MAF is a Bosch F 00C 2G2 029
or if a synergy 2a ( ronbox ) tuning module is fitted .. one can then use the Pierburg MAF 7.22684.07.0 ( or the standard Bosch MAF )

the usual way to see If the MAF is at fault ..
is to disconnect it and see if the lower rpm range improves

as for the "strange pulsating droning and very slight vibration coming from the front of the car when driving over 70mph"
er sorry can't help on that one :-/
maybe someone else has an idea ..

I got a bit of humming on my TD4 at 70mph. Oddly enough a tank of fresh diesel fixed it. I suspect it was just the engine running very slightly rough on substandard fuel - and maybe some resonance with old bushes and so on.
