LRO Training Days

Did an LRO training day at Rockingham Castle on Saturday in my P38 4.6 HSE along with a friend in his bobtail classic.

The day was simply amazing, a fantastic safe way to learn some off road techniques and gain an insight to just what these vehicles are capable of. The weather was lovely, which helped since I was on Pirelli Scorpion S/T's (with only about 4mm tread), but they coped really well all day even through the muddy river crossing. I was pleased to see that my door seals did indeed keep all the nasty stuff out which is more than I can say for the bobtail!

Course was taken by Ed Cobley who was absolutely brilliant in passing on a wealth of knowledge (well it felt like a wealth, but must only be the tip of a very large iceberg).

I am pleased to say that my rangie performed faultlessly all day long, up and down some very steep hills, through the water etc and of course gave me a very comfy ride and a very comfy air conditioned ride all the way home. And of course there was no damage, even my side steps remained perfectly intact.

For those who haven't done any real off roading/green laning and want to gain some experience in a safe/controlled manner I really couldn't recommend the day enough. For £50 it is an absolute steal!

Looks like a good day out. Don't need Off Road training centres over here..we have loads of them...called public roads !!!

Have got a few small videos which I will try and upload soon. Was a bonus that we only had the vehicles in our group so lots of instructor attention.

£50 is a bit of a bargain. I've done two half-day sessions at Rockingham but that was with the Land Rover Experience guys. The courses are not exactly cheap but you do get to trash, I mean drive, their cars and not your own. Although the instructors at Rockingham are superb, polite, patient and were great with my little lad, and the place is beautiful, it's not as challenging as other places. I did a level 2 course at Eastnor last week and that was utterly fantastic. They've got about 6,000 acres to play with and some of the hills would turn your hair white. Particularly as it was straight after the rather damp weather we've been having of late. I think you can take your own vehicle but only at certain times which is a pity.
