Hi all. I so hope there is someone out there that may have an answer. So a problem recurring. Key in. Dash lights all come on. A barely audible solenoid? click, but nothing. No error codes, spare key the same thing happens. The ONLY fix is that I have to disconnect the red pos terminal off the battery. I leave it for 5 minutes and then re-attach. Car starts. It will then start several times and randomly then repeat to which the whole process starts again. The longer the terminal of the battery is left off, the less frequent the issue occurs. The OBD scanner ($4,000 tool) shows no errors at all and no indication of what the problem is but does indicate immobiliser locked. clearing the codes makes no difference. Have tried dioferent software updates too. Is there a fix or is this a volvo issue (given its a volvo engine) or any ideas what may resolve this?

Hello,

Why do you think it is a volvo engine?

I assume you mean a Discovery 2? if it is carry on reading, if not??
TD5 or V8?

What is the little led red light on the dash doing? Have a read here.

It sounds with the clicking like your starter motor solenoid is failing, they make a click and then will work randomly until they go completely, If you get a chance have someone turn the key whiile you stick your head down by the starter motor if it is a td5. TD5 solenoid kits cost about £15 GBP and are easy to fit.

Cheers
