Hi there, I have a 1999 4.6 p38 with a brc system fitted. My girlfriend lives in the North London area (east barnet) and i work and live on base between oxford and reading as I'm in the military. Does anyone know of a good lpg tuner to go to to get my system sorted, as the mpg on lpg is pants as it hasn't been tuned according to the book for a vast number of years. Also the engine is new I fitted it 3 thousand miles ago and have serviced and replaced the diaphragms in the vapouriser but don't have the know how or computer to tune the gas system

Thanks

What sort of mpg are you getting? My understanding is that the mpg on the 4.6 is pretty pants before it goes on LPG and it is downhill from there, the upside being LPG is relatively cheap!

Hi,
There is a indie who I believe fits and services LPG systems on all Land Rover vehicles, they are called H E Douglas and are based in the Village of Wardington about 6 miles outside Banbury on the daventry road, they have a website, might be worth giving them a call.

You should be looking at 20% less mpg than it would get on petrol. Trouble is, you then often over compensate by flooring the accelerator so you end up getting even less!

I'm getting high teens, low twenties on petrol and about 12 on lpg all worked out from the pump. I'm not noticing any major power loss on lpg as I use it for the motorway commute down the m40 to the girlfriends house so I'm just cruising most of the way there

Well maybe I will stop worrying about it, lpg is only 59p a litre now. Just didn't have any other p38's to compare gas mileage against. Thanks for the info, also how regularly do people on here service there lpg systems?

Knowing that stretch of motorway quite well I would say 12mpg is on the low side. The only time my P38 returned decent figures on lpg was on a steady run (18mpg approx) Around town I was lucky to see 12mpg.

I used to have mine serviced annually, which was basically a filter change and tune up on the PC. The software is readily available these days and tuning the system is quite straight forward to someone PC efficient. lpgforum.co.uk has some really knowledgeable members who are more than happy to help you out if you need some assistance.

That sounds pretty handy, seen the software for the tune up but wasn't too confident on how to use it properly but might give it a go if I can get some advice on what's best

72 litres of Gas in the P38 will get me around 185-190 miles and 215-225 in the L322

I get 215 miles to a full tank of LPG almost to on both P38's (both 4.6's) near as dammit, mixture of local roads, A roads and M-way.

You may want to check BRC's website for a local installer here : Finding your nearest BRC installer as they will the BRC software. Capital Autogas in New Malden did both of ours, but that's the South-West side of London..

Just dowloaded an mpg app for my phone where you put your oddometer reading in when you fill up and the price, then the app calculates cost per mile and mpg etc, so will see what that says on the next fill up (wouldn't of thought it would be too far away)

I get an average of around 14mpg on LPG, 18 on a good run.
My system is pre-set for servicing every 24k miles. Only ever needed filter changes in the last 2 1/2 years.

Morrisons is now currently 62p/ltr (52p/ltr if you do your shopping there with 10p/ltr off fuel vouchers). Happy days:D
