There's a lot of posting going on about LPG v Petrol which is all very informative. I've done a search and nothing showed up on a couple of points which may be of interest to some.
I had a custom made stainless exhaust fitted to my 2002 P38 r rvr 4ltre. I was told, because of it having lpg as a fuel, there was no need to fit catalytic converters, so I didn't.
The MOT has just come up and I thought, to be on the safe side, I'd send the log sheet off saying there was a change. vis. dual fuel. I had a letter back saying the changes mentioned couldn't be made until I changed the taxation class. This I did by taking the LPG cert of competance, insurance cert, tax disc and existing MOT cert to DVLA. They printed off anew tax disc saying "ALT FUEL VEHICLE" and a refund of RFL.
This I did for my 2004 fiesta flame also.
I got the RFL down to £120 per ann from £140 for the ford and from £385 to £190 for the range rvr.
This, I gather, is because they were first registered after 1st March 2001.
The MOT for the range rover stated "LPG" as fuel type and "NON CATALYST" was printed out on the emissions sheet.
No doubt this will be old hat for some, but I hope it'll serve as useful to others contemplating an LPG conversion.
regards all. P.S
