Are there any good Series 3 lower fascias anywhere?

I saw only one at Billing last weekend, it wasn't as bad as mine is, but still rotten so I didn't buy it.

There were also later Defender ones around. They look similar but are not quite the same on the rear. Has anyone modified one of these to fit? I'm sure I saw something online about removing the bulge from the rear of the bulkhead, and welding a flat plate in its place. Once this was done, apparently a Defender dash would fit. To me this seems like a bad idea, as the bulge must add to the structural strength of the bulkhead.

I think it would be worth someone reproducing the fascia in purely moulded plastic with no rust-prone metal structure. I'm sure they would sell.

I have actually considered leaving mine off completely when I do my rebuild. My idea was to make up some pieces of flexible hose for the heater ducts and have windscreen demist only.

To me the original just seems like such an inherently bad design as it's a moisture trap.

Is there anyone out there who can rebuild or repairs the originals, or specialises in classic car dasboard reapirs generally?

Thanks for any info.

I did manage to find what I thought was a very good one of these compared to most of them. The vinyl covering had been removed when I bought it.

Here it is after shot-blasting and priming. There are a few very small holes at the bottom right, but these shouldn't matter. I will look into the cost of getting it re-covered. If that's too expensive I may have a go at doing it myself if I can find a source of suitable material.

Now just to get to the stage where I can actually start re-assembling the Landy, which seems to be getting further and further away.
