So my low fuel lights been on the last two years I've owned my Landy; 200tdi from 1991.
After buying it I was so poor I couldn't fill the thing and I couldn't ever remember the light not being on
It was in my ownership rebuilt onto a new chassis (professionally) and fitted with a new tank and sender unit. When after many months I got the car back the fuel gauge didn't work. At this point the two connectors containing green/black and white/slate were pushed together but they were not connecting to the right colours because the plugs were the same (green/black wires both had male connectors, and white/slate both had female connectors.
Anyway, made some jumper leads to make them green/black to green/black and same for the white/slate.
Gauge still not working.
Suspected faulty cable to the speedo so ran a new wire and presto; managed to get my fuel gauge to read; but fuel light still on.
Been tinkering with this thing for months and months and finally had a proper read of the wiring diagram, it happens that the two double plugs with white/slate and green/black wires I was trying to put together never were meant to go together, but instead just the male green plug plugs into one of the big multi plugs. And one of the double plugs isn't needed
Anyway I don't know why the white and slate is even in the loom but it appears to do naff all the good news is I've finally got a fuel light that "clicked off" when I filled up with fuel.
You can see how anyone might think the double plugs with the same coloured wires ought to go together, because that makes more sense than plugging half a double plug into a massive multi plug.
This may not be all that clear; I'm still giddy with excitement; hope it helps someone else who's got similar issues
