Freelander driving me crazy
Hi my feebe has a tickover problem in the morning the thing ticks over fine and drive to paper shop before work still fine till I turn of and get back in then tickover around 900 cleaned all sensors I need help its not air con or anything switched on
M47 engine td4 2006

If the heater controls are set to screen then the aircon comes on automatically even though the aircon switch isn't illuminated, this is to aid demisting. Could be that you have a MAF problem, when engine is cold the ECU presets are used and when it reaches operating temperature the MAF takes over. Try disconnecting the MAF and see if the tick over improves as the engine will run on the presets, if it does then this points towards a faulty MAF.

Right got a bit closer to problem when ignition is on not running I can see the rev counter rise to 0 but in some cases it judders and sets just over 0 henc the high tick over presto now what can be doing this ??

have you tried connecting a digital scanning device to read the rpm ?
( e.g. something like a " scangauge II " )
i.e. as opposed to watching the .. (analogue?) rpm dial ..

.. is your's an auto .. or manual gearbox .. ?

if you read from page 50 onwards .. in this .pdf
http://www.rover-club.net/graphics/manuals/16/m47r_diesel.pdf
you'll see a fair amount of analogue to digital signals going on
that determine engine operation ..

e.g. the go-pedal comprises of 2 analogue potentiometers ( variable resistors )
