Ive got an S reg Freelander petrol its got a very loud banging and cluncking from around the front ,advised not to drive. It does it in a straght line even in reverse. But it stops completely when on full lock driving round in a circle in ether direction.
So does it mean it is less likly to be the IRD and more likly to be a front drive shift.If anyone knows how to diagnose let me know.

had the same problem but on lock so problem is the viscous coupling have now got front prop out and it drives ok if not better in 2 wheel drive so if problem goes away with the front prop out it can only be from the ird back.
