Hi All,

I am a research assistant at the University of the Arts London and am working on a small project documenting how Land Rover Defender and other Series owners are used regularly by people in resourceful ways. I am looking for volunteers who live in South East England to answer a few questions over the phone about how long they have had their vehicle, if they've made modifications to it in order to use it in their own special way or made their own repairs to it at home or in the field.

These phone calls would last 10-20 minutes and the information would be used solely for research/educational purposes and kept anonymous.

If you're interested in participating before the end of August please let me know. Your stories of how these vehicles are used would be much appreciated in documenting the unique character and design of Defenders in British culture.

Warm Wishes,
K Toth-Fejel

Why the South East of England only? This is a major flaw in your research, as one geographical area does not reflect the country as a whole, in fact the reasons for owning their vehicles are likely to be very different. For example, many of the Defender owners in my locale regularly carry a sheep or a haybale in the back, whereas in the back of a South East Defender it's more likely to be a brat called Oliver or Phoebe, or an antique commode.

Very true :)

If I'm going to answer a request like that I want to know more about who's asking before I waste time. Googling the name given in the opening post, showed who the op is and their 'area of interest'. And that she's a she.

My daughter's an art student, so I'm interested in the project that the op is running.

Not creepy at all.

I can do creepy though. How's Hamilton? My Mum's family come from there!

Very true :)

I'm only half joking though, to cover "British culture" would need a large sample of people from a cross section of British society who happen to own a Land Rover. Katelyn, you could do your research in the way you describe, but only as a localised study. I also looked you up after seeing boguing's post, so consider this: I want to study the attitude to sustainable fashion in American culture, so I'm going to ask 12 people from Anchorage, Alaska for their personal stories. See the problem?

Tratters have a pig in the back wherever they are....everyone knows that :p

Mine carries it's own tools .. and a load of other stuff too. Many mods to it with many more to come. ;)

The only things they modify in the south east is the alloy wheels and air freshener, possibly add the odd parking sensor for the less competent Chelsea tractor driver!

This isnt some some arts n crafts fashion student doing a fake degree can design a jumper with a pocket in it for a ethnic peace cookie that will cement the bonds between various 4x4 owners and the local populus is it?

Because if it is I am interested!
