Hello to all out there!

I have been looking for a land rover defender for a few weeks now with not much joy, most of the ones I have liked have been just out of my price range(mainly TD5's) so stepping back bit & looking for a decent 300/200tdi.
I am watching a couple on ebay at the moment
One is a 1995 with 136k on the clock which looks really tidy but I paid for a vehicle check & it came up with ( data currently held on NMR indicates there may be a mileage discrepancy ) all the other checks were fine.
The other is an R reg 1997 with 68000 on the clock, also looks great (it is white though) The vehicle check on this one was A1.
Both sellers agreed to a third party vehicle check before settling. Dont know whether to stick with a dealer & pay a bit extra.
Hope someone can give some advice
Thanks in advance all :)

Perffoof, (thats the noise someone would make if you don't realy know what advice to give and it's realy up to you, then they would quote a bit of Latin or maybe Greek, can't remember which or what the saying is, but it means, buyer beware).

Hello.

Good evening mrback. It's your call chap but I understand the dillema. Personally I can only advise that you approach any prospective ebay purchase with caution. I would prefer seeing the vehicle "in the flesh" as well as going with the usual inspections I'd be tempted to also look into previous ownership if poss.
It's hard enough earning yer dosh without losing it.

Oh, hello by the way.

Regards WP.

Let the buyer beware!
Ok I hear ya, I think I am going to have to go down the route of either buying from a reputable dealer (If anyone can give me there best suggestions I would really appreciate it. I am based in the North west but prepared to travel a reasonable distance) Or arrange an Rac/AA Check ona vehicle I find that I like.
These are the ones I have been looking at:

Any thoughts?

Just a quickie on the milage discrepency I always hpi before I buy, I had the milage discrepency thing on a check...I contacted hpi and they said its due to an m o t inspector getting numbers wrong when they put the details on the dvla computer at the end of a test...doesn't seem that important but its worth checking your milage on your m o t sheet, cause it can really mess your sale up if its logged wrongley...

ps hope you find the landy of your dreams...:D

I was looking at a disco on ebay, that looked good - went to see it in person and im glad i did. It was worth about £200 in scrap. The engine sounded knackered, the clutch was jammed, the chassis was about goosed. It finally sold for £1500 or there abouts.

Just be careful, and remmeber if its too good to be true it probably is

Hi, I recently bought my 90 off Ebay - I new it had no MOT but stupid me believed the seller when they said it was bob-on and would sail through an MOT. I bought it, collected it, sent it for an MOT and would you believe it - IT SANK

I bought it for £1000 but it cost me another £500 (Including buying a MIG welder to weld up all the holes in the chasis) and 3 MOTs.

It has now passed its MOT and, lucky for me is now just about worth it's money, and sloooowly becoming my extreme offroader.

So the lesson is - If you are going to buy from Ebay -
View before buying - don't believe everything they tell you.

Hope this helps. Taz
