I've recently got my 110 back from a comprehensive tarting-up operation (pics to follow in thread called Rotten doors - your time has come). As part of this process I decided to replace the wheels with LR boost alloys in black. Before this my 110 had silver modular wheels with 265/75s on. So, I did some research - maybe not as thoroughly as I ought - and found that LR offered this size of tyre as an option. My logic was that if LR offers this tyre size then presumably that would be fitted to boost alloys but, if that were the case, did Defenders striaght out of Solihull fitted with 265/75s have a reduced turning circle compared to a vehicle with smaller width tyres? Anyway, the tyres now rub considerably on full lock. As I understand from the wisdom of this forum the simple fix is to adjust the lockstops (yes I know how to do this) to prevent them rubbing. However, this surely gives a greater turning circle which is a bad thing.
So, my options as I understand it:
1) adjust lockstops, man-up a bit and accept that there will be more points to my 3 point turns in future
2) get some spacers but these can potentially overload the wheel bearings, aren't cheap and are frowned upon by some insurers
3) maybe replace the front tyres with some 235/85s but does anyone know the legal and practical consequences of running 235s at the front and 265s at the back. I'm too skint to stretch to a set of 235s all round.
