Loan FreeLander 2

Hi All,

Not been around for a while, too much work not enough Surfing to be honest.

Well the Freelander Sports doing and i decided to take it in for the little bits and bobs needed to be sorted under warrenty the other day. They give me a clean Met Black Freelander 2 HSE TD4 while ours was in so i thought i would sahve my thoughts on it:

The Good:

1 Feels well built and is really more Range Rover than FreeLander.
2 Not sure if its just the 2L TD4 but it goes like stink!
3 Cabin is very posh and a nice place to be in for short or long journeys.
4 Everything is done for you ie mirrors lower when you reverse close when you lock up......

The Bad:

1 The Boots a little higher so getting stuff in will be harder.
2 The door handle recess looks naff formed in the door it looks out of place.
3 The clearance between the wheels and the Arches are big enough for a small family to live in.
4 You need a good look around the dash and controls before setting off... i think small planes have less controls!

So all in all it does what they wanted, its a much more grown up Freelander to ours, and im guessing the fact ours was one of the last ones that had most toys and things sorted It would be a closer contest.

But I love ours, would i have stumped up another £10k for the new freelander over ours.... No but if i could have gone a little higher on the budget and had the same spec as ours on the new one i guess i would have one.

My plan is to enjoy our Freelander for at least 3 years keep in nice and look to upgrade to a RR sport! I would sooner Have a few year old Vogue Than a Brand new FreeLander 2 though.

Oh and our FreeLander needs a new clutch!

I too had a loan TD4 HSE F2 (it's a 2.2 diesel I think).

Yes it is a lovely machine, but like you say lots of buttons & gadgets, agree with you also about the boot height.

When I finally took it back to the dealership I asked the salesman who sold me my F1, how much would this be then?? £34,000 he answered.

Fook me, nice car.....but 34 grands worth.....I think not!

take ya ladder orft the roof un replace wiv a pair er ski,s , walk in un tend yer talkin on ya mobile near a salesmen ,un say yep jist driven back from the alps ,need a new motor un jist saw the new gaylander and there very cheap, but i havn't driven one yet ,thinkin of buyin er slitty. . . .fook me he'll latch on

Taking cars for test drives isn't what i like to do but having a new one on loan while my cars being looked at is great.

I booked a test drive in a new Elise a while ago and made sure the salesman new i wanted to take one out to see if i could live with it.

Anyway after a cup of coffee, a look around the car and 30 mins of slober from the bloke i say.. "Can i take it out for a test drive now?" "Oh i haven't got anyone to take you out in it" he says.... I can feel the blood rushing to my head as i begin to lose cool and tell him he has wasted my time a drive off!

As i drove off i thought screw this i booked in a day before and didn't just turn up so went back and insisted i have a test drive. In the end The Service manager took me out, ragged the nuts off it and let me do the same. Moral of the story, nearly all Salesman are c*cks and shouldn't be trusted as far as you could throw them.

To be fair the Leicester LandRover dealership has probably the best staff i have ever come across, the sales staff are great and service girls are really friendly and the service blokes are spot on and will have a chat too.

Saying this because i had the Clutch, Clutch Hydraulics, Release Bearing, Flywheel and pressure plate all changed under warrenty last week.
