Ok heres my plan im looking to sell my Clio V6 and buy a defender, however im alittle unsure which one to go for or if theres any common problems they suffer from.

im looking for a 3door hard top in green or black.

Your best bet would be a 300 TDi (L reg up to the TD5 engine coming out) as you can work on them without being hooked up to a computer. Go for a newer TD5 if you really want to, but running costs will be higher.

Look for: Front bulkhead - any signs of bubbling under the windscreen avoid. Check underneath car and inside engine bay at it's condition as well. Front outriggers that it bolts onto need checking, as does the rear cross-member. Check inner wings, pull up mats and check floor panels. Remove drivers seat base, unclip cover and check around the fuel tank. Also rear door needs checking. Ensure that difflock light comes on when engaged and you can move between Hi and Lo box without needing to be Charles Atlas
