hi hope someone can help me. had a problem that the headlamp dip on my 79 ltweight stopped working ,everything else worked except that the dipped headlamps would not come on,decided it was the column multi switch, bought a new one + it is still the same,so to make the l.r. useable i changed the wiring on the new multi switch so that it enabled me to get dip+ no main beam.[at least i can still use it],so i,m now thinking it may be a relay ,there are 3 on the bulkhead in the eng comp,1 i know is the indicator relay[quite big]but there are 2 others mounted side by side, both alloy lookinglooking the same but they have different wiring connections on them, does anyone know what these are for + if they are to do with the headlamp circuit can i change them for the modern style which you normally use for spotlights.p.s. the wiring in this ltweight has been modified before i bought it ,it now has an older turbo diesel l,rover eng in it with the turbo mounted on the top[not sure which eng you call it ,thanks mbs.

Erm...follow the wires from the relay? Try a multimeter? Use a bulb on a bit of wire to test?

Did they have relays as standard?

seperate your questions into paragraphs

supply photos of the things you are looking at

do those two things (it's called helping yourself) and you might be able to get some helpful answers, i for one won't try to answer them until you do help yourself

p.s.
it would have been polite to actually introduce yourself first ;)

thanks for your info now i know how you get your nickname,i never thought i was being impolite+ if you asked me a question about an electrical box on any outboard motor i would 90% know without a photo + there have been at least 1300 different engines ,not like a l,rover where they have long runs of the same product.have a nice day .mbs.

assuming you are now back from the common courtesy introduction board here goes

great vu r an outboard expert.. many here are as u suppose landy experts but your lightweight is an old motor and as u have said no longer standard

on my lightweight it is the left hand relay looking at the TWO on the bulkhead, my third indicator has been moved and replaced as with many landies over the years

as you clearly electrically know your stuff by your outboard comment i would suggest the approach i took when losing a headlight

pull one wire a time off either relay and you will soon realise which controls the lights... its far faster than even bothering to post

by the way is yours 12 or 24 as they differ

cheers steve

thanks for both the above posts.now i have some more information to work on,going away for a couple of wks tonight + i will nail it when i get back.p.s mine is the 12 v model.mbs
