As part of my mods to make my Defender bad ones friendly, the first which I'm currently looking at being Auto conversion, another thing I'm looking at is the accelerator pedal. Is there any way of making the accelerator pedal lighter?
My brake pedal seems to be fine.

89 Ninety with Disco 200tdi.
 
Well, I have never heard anyone complain about the accelerator pedal being heavy.

Are you sure yours is not wrong for some particular reason? what engine do you have in it?

My thoughts are if you have too light a pedal then when off road there is more of a risk of getting throttle pedal movement accidentally.

I don't often go off road in fact I have not done it in this truck yet.
It's a Disco 200tdi.

I would agree with this, whereas the other half complains about both the clutch and the brake pedals, the accelerator has never been considered a problem. Without wishing to insult you intelligence, is everything definitely free moving,. pedal, spring, cable, pump etc? If so then at that point I would consider how to make it lighter, although the only way I can see is reducing the pedal spring, but if the cable or linkage is stiff that may be an easy cure.

I've been over everything, and .most of it is brand new, fitted when I swapped the engine.

Have you routed the cable correctly? when I replaced mine, I routed it in too tight a radius and it was very stiff. In fact it stopped the pedal from returning quickly. If I was you , I would start by disconnecting the cable at the FIP and see if the stiffness comes from the pedal / cable or the Fuel pump.

I certainly hope my mechanic fitted it correctly.

I wouldn’t guarantee it, but I do not know your mechanic. The only person I 100% trust to work on my vehicle is me! Even the local specialist land rover garage which has been in business for 40 odd years do not do jobs to the “standard” I do because they are against the clock being paid by the hour. They do not have time to fettle and clean and grease on reassembly etc.

Sadly, I am not a mechanic, I can throw a spanner around and bolt large stuff on, but when it comes to mechanicals, I have to leave that to mechanics.
